PFS Pumps is an Ontario supplier of centrifugal pumps of all sizes and capacities. We supply centrifugal positive displacement pumps to customers across a variety of industries for an array of applications. Our products include both stock pumps and replacement parts as well as custom designed and manufactured pumps, so you can always be confident that your pump will suit your specific needs when you work with us.
Additionally, a PFS Pumps, we offer installation, maintenance and training. Centrifugal pumps are essential pieces of equipment in many industries and we want to ensure that you are happy with your purchase.
How centrifugal pumps work?
Centrifugal pumps are used to pump liquid. They use rotational energy – typically from an electric motor – which converts into hydrodynamic energy from the flow of the liquid. Centrifugal pumping units can be extremely simple (such as an end suction pump with an electric motor) to very complex units which are custom engineered.
Types of centrifugal pumps
There are various types of centrifugal pumps including:
- Radial – this type of pump allows for an outward motion of the liquid that is channeled through it.
- Axial – these pumps transport liquid through a lifting effect.
- Mechanically actuated – these pumps use a reciprocating mechanical unit that is in direct contact with the diaphragm.
- Hydraulically-actuated – These pumps are powered by hydraulic fluid, which is used to pump the diaphragm.
- Air-operated double diaphragm (AODD) – These pumps have two diaphragms that are flexed by air which flows through the shuttle valves at varying pressures.
Advantages of centrifugal pumps
- Because there is no drive seal, there is no leakage within the pump
- Able to pump hazardous liquids
- Extremely quiet
- Can achieve nearly 100% efficiency
- Minimum wear compared to other types of pumps
- No heat transfer between the motor and the pump chamber
- Water cannot enter the motor
- Use of magnetic coupling breaks of high load and eliminates the risk of damage to the motor
Industries and applications
Centrifugal pumps can be found across many different industries and are used for a wide range of applications including:
- Supplying water to residential areas
- Fire protection systems
- Sewage and wastewater disposal
- Manufacturing in the food and beverage industry
- Chemical manufacturing
- Industrial operations in the oil and gas industry
